Family Day 2011

FAMILY DAY 2011

“Fit for Jesus!”

This was the theme for this year’s family day held again on the 4th floor of the church in Makati last May 28. Although this was very different from the usual family outing held almost every year, this proved to be an enlightening and a feel-good time for the whole family still.

The idea was conceived thru the leadership of Bro Sonny and Sis Shirley Ferrer in line with taking care of our physical bodies as a form of worship to God as well.

A seminar was held led by Dr Aubrey Coronado on the common ailments associated in this age coupled of course with the how-to’s on minimizing if not completely avoiding in order to live a more relaxed and healthier lifestyle. Each participant was also asked to have their basic health info checked before the physical fitness part began.

The aerobics routine led by our very own professional aero instructor Ms Ruby Sararana was indeed something! Yes, groans were heard as well as complaints and asking for rest but in the end, the instructor prevailed! She asked us to go beyond our limits and just try to keep up. Later on, there were already shouts of excitement and cries to the like of: “I thought I wouldn’t make it to the end!” and “It feels good to sweat this much!”

This is actually a continuing program scheduled to finish at the end of the year with some joining thru to lose weight while others to gain. In both cases, I belive, bodies will be strengthened to better serve the LORD while building-up friendships in the process. Who can be against these?

Father’s Day 2011

Who could have guessed that they could look cute again? “Who?” you say? The fathers, that is.

The theme for this year’s Father’s Day celebration was a Kiddie Party thought of and planned by the lovely ladies: Zen, Joan, Tines. In fact, it was held at a local fast food chain known for this kind of party catering especially to kids last June 11.

Fathers came in their kiddie costumes. Some wore hats. Others wore shorts and jumpers with matching suspenders! They even came in with child(ish) or rather child-like attitudes. Games were aplenty, prizes were awarded afterwards, loot bags were distributed. Even the company mascot of the store came out to join in the festivities with all the dancing, games, and picture-taking.

At the end of the day, the ‘kids” had to be stopped and brought home but I dare say, they had fun that day!

Mother’s Day 2011

The mothers of the ministry literally took center stage in this year’s celebration of Mother’s Day held on the 4th floor of the church in Makati last May 14.

Upon arrival, all mothers were ushered into a separate room at first to await for the “grand entrance’ prepared by the husbands. Earlier on, each was asked to come in a cocktail dress to make it really extra special.  Mothers of course, took advantage of the event and came in full regalia, so to speak. Wearing a dress, high heels, with make-up and hair done- we just revelled in the attention showered to us that night. As each was called to enter the final room, excitement grew as we finally realized that each of us would be given our own sweet time to walk on the ramp just like a professional model would. And we took our time waving and smiling to our heart’s delight!

When everyone was called up on the stage, a serenade followed with a single-stemmed rose given to the wives by their respective husbands. To the husbands, especially to the event leaders: kudos for a job well done!

Couples’ Retreat at Word for the World Cebu 2010

“I want my husband and I to sing together too for the Lord just like Bro. Ian and Sis Cynthia.”

“We pray that we too here in Cebu would be able to give a seminar like this to other couples as you guys have done today for us.”

“To see couples who are expressive in their love for one another and to the Lord is such a blessing!”

These are just some of the comments received by the Couples Ministry of WWCF-Makati having “exported” the patterned Couples’ Retreat to WWCF-Cebu.

Thirteen couples from the core group of the ministry flew to Cebu with so much enthusiasm to share what the Lord has been doing in the ministry and in their personal lives.  The theme of the whole event was “Faithful to the End” – referring to God’s unending faithfulness in the lives of the couples and their respective families under ALL circumstances.

The one-day Couples Retreat seminar was divided into 3 main topics: The Couple and their Relationships (with their Parents, In-Laws and Children); The Couple and their Resources (Time, Talents and Treasure); and The Couple as Intimate Partners. Fifty-nine (59) couples attended the seminar representing 4 local churches in the region. The seminar ended with a very practical Question & Answer Forum where day-to-day, true-to-life experiences were shared, narrated and discussed.  Each couple also received a certificate for their presence and participation.

The event was spearheaded by the Ministry Heads, Bro Anchit and Sis Mayven Idian, under the coverage of Pastor Raymund Ladao as the Pastor-in-Charge. WWCF-Cebu’s Pastor, Timmy Lao Uy, and wife, Sis Grace were the perfect hosts who made sure that the well-being and comfort of the visiting brothers and sisters were secured.

Faithful to the end. The Cebu seminar came to pass and the seed was planted. And now to Him who can do more than we can ever imagine- to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord be glory, majesty, might, and authority, from all ages past, and now, and forever and ever! Amen.

Valentines 2009

Couples Ministry Valentine’s Day Concert:
“Not Just Another Valentine’s Date”

So, was it really “not just another Valentine’s date”? That would be an “Amen”!

Under the tutelage of the Couples Ministry (CM), the dinner concert held at the WWCF Sanctuary last February 14. ‘09 was nothing short of a success. The warm atmosphere created as couples were there on a romantic note gave the fellowship a different refreshing feel. The concert’s ministering numbers given by CM members (with support from the Youth) were received with much approval.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of a short movie depicting the life testimony of Bro. Anchit and Sis. Mayven Idian, CM Ministry Heads. This clip, the very first major video production of CM, shows a very encouraging true-life story of how the Lord gave a married couple victory over financial bondage.

The concert concluded with Pastor Gerry Holloway giving words of appreciation to the Couples Ministry and of encouragement to all couples present to build their marriages to become even stronger (with emphasis on Christianity NOT being boring, but full of life). He gave a benediction blessing the marriage unions of those present.

After the concert proper, the evening continued with memorable stints (on videoke), games, and dancing.

It just goes to show: When God redeems individuals through Christ, He takes interest in ALL aspects of their lives… Yes, including romance.

Mother’s Day 2010

“One good turn deserves another” so the saying goes.

How about “One good turn deserves EXACTLY THE SAME TURN?” – That’s precisely what the Couples’ Ministry husbands had in mind, under the coordination of Bro. Greg Toreja,  when they put together the “itinerary” for their wives last May 2010.
They treated their wives to the exact same spa facility where they were treated to last Father’s Day 2009.  Even the mode of gathering the group together on a Saturday morning for shuttling to the spa followed the same pattern; even ending the same time late afternoon that day.
Ah!  But there was something different:  There was a short “concert program” in store for the ladies as they got back for the evening couples fellowship service.  They were treated mostly to a few Elvis favourites.  Bro John Lim brought the house down with his Mother’s Day Song, adapted from the popular rock group U2’s hit, “New Year’s Day”.
Back to convention: After the mini concert, a modest spread was put together for a salo-salo dinner.

“Happy mothers”, the husbands observed, quite satisfied with themselves.
